When it comes to finding a digital marketing superstar, it’s important to find someone that gels with you and gets your business.
And considering digital marketing is well truly here to stay. Think long term – someone you can work with and get on with to make everyone’s workdays more enjoyable. You don’t want someone you can’t stand.
Chat with some potential digital marketer people over the phone, Zoom, or if they’re local to you or see if they’re up for a face to face catch up.
What do you want your digital marketer to help with?
When hiring a digital marketer rockstar, it’s important to think about what areas you want help with:
- your social media presence
- search engine optimisation
- website traffic
- content marketing – blog posts, email marketing
- Facebook ads
- Google ads
- Google My Business listing
Or is it online marketing as a whole? Now, that’s a super exciting place to be to grow your business.
Your digital marketing efforts don’t necessarily need to be on your platform either. You could be collaborating with other businesses that have the same target audience and:
- be a guest blogger on another website
- have been invited to speak on their podcast
- apply to be a guest writer on an industry website relevant to your business
Why is digital marketing a good idea?
Obviously, I’m a bit biased, but so much can be done online. And that’s one of the good things that COVID (if you can say COVID and good thing in the same sentence). But I really think it’s shown businesses just what can be done online. And I think consumers are more open to receiving and consuming a variety of goods and content online—some of which they might not have considered before.
The only thing it’s made a crowded marketplace all that bit more crowded. So, it’s important to put some thought and plan with a digital marketing strategy into how and what you do.
- get creative
- find your niche
- find what makes you different and rock it
Check out their digital marketing presence
When looking for a digital marketing expert, check out their own online presence and do some stalking.
It might not be your standard search in this instance, though. A digital marketing expert might often choose not to have a website that does it all or daily social media posts. This may sound shocking, but when you’re rocking other businesses’ online presence, the last thing you feel like doing is your own sometimes.
So, check out reviews or see what’s being said about them by others on social media. There’s nothing like seeing a name pop up in recommendations regularly.
If you’re like me, I Google most things anyway. But check out what sort of online presence they have and see if they come up on other review sites. And if they do, perhaps their digital marketing strategy is growing their audience by guest blogging or being invited to Podcasts to share their knowledge. Or about their personal or business journey.
Ask to see their testimonials!
And here’s a great tip for your business – make asking for reviews or testimonials a part of your post after sales process. If you don’t ask, you don’t receive. And just adding a few more steps, whether it be to your offboarding process or sending an email a few days after a customer has received their order. It’s worth doing, and there are some great ways to automate the process too.
And don’t be afraid to follow up. Life gets busy, and emails will slip down our inboxes. So, send a reminder if you don’t receive a response on the first one.
